Before entering into any opportunity, it's preferable to have a clear image of what your OPS will be. And if it's not in line with your values or your character — it's not for you. There's an abundance of information in this techie world and it is, therefore, very easy to get side-tracked. Once you've found a niche that resonates with you, simply stick with it until it works.

Particularly when it comes to online business, it's not at all uncommon for a person to make less than a hundred dollars in their first year — eventually going on to make a six-figure income in subsequent years. But even if you made a five-figure salary... How would that change your life? Most would say it's pretty good, and they'd be right, especially since you were likely having fun in the process.

Getting back to OPS, let us elaborate.

Own stands for owning the products. This doesn't mean you need to create the product(s) you'll be selling, but you do want to have as much control over your e-business as possible (otherwise you'll be leaving the progression of your home based business to chance). It's vital that you have full rights over the products and/or services you choose to sell, including the freedom to promote them in several ways — which leads us to our next point.

Promote refers to taking charge of your promotional activities. The Internet allows for numerous options with regards to having others promote your products for you (whether it be through joint ventures, the recruiting of affiliates or associates, etc). In all cases, it's important to be on top of how and how well the word is getting out.

Sell simply means converting your online traffic into buyers. A great deal of effort should be placed on getting those final clicks, otherwise, the lifeline of your business will be cut short. You can only work for so long without getting a first paycheck (and consistent paychecks thereafter), but keep in mind that building a profitable online business requires skills that do take some time to develop.
